I really liked the first Cowboy’s and Brides book Billion Dollar Cowboy but the follow up really wasn’t to my taste. The concept of Lucas being overseas at war and starting an internet friendship with Natalie, a friend of a guy he served with and died overseas is one that I thought sounded very promising but the execution left something to be desired.
****SPOILERS****
I really just couldn’t understand why Natalie never told Lucas that she was pregnant considering how close they were becoming in their discussions and instead she decides that to help out she will turn up at his home with the baby in tow while the family friend who cooks and cleans for Lucas is unable to be there. Then when Lucas returns home to meet Natalie and has this surprise baby that he is now living with made known to him she gets angry because he doesn’t immediately embrace both her and her son. Just didn’t get it and the interactions between them were ho-hum at best.

Carolyn Brown generally weaves an incredible story with strong characters and dialogue and there aren’t many of her books that I haven’t enjoyed immensely but this was one that I struggled to get through and leaves not that much of an impression.

The Cowboy Christmas Baby Cowboys Brides Carolyn Brown 0760789241383 Books Reviews

I found this author by accident about ten years ago, and I have been a fan of hers ever since then. I love the fact that she doesn't write books about weepy, needy, and weak sniveling females. They may be down on their luck at the time but are far from down and out for the count. No. No matter whether those characters are young, old, or somewhere in between; all the females tend to be real scrappers who still value their pride. They are also very sassy, fiesty, and ready to go toe to toe with anyone who has the audacity to stand in her way of achieving her goals. In this story Natalie is no different than all of the other female characters she's written about in previous books, and after reading the first opening paragraphs in this story....I instantly fell in love with this character.

Her Cowboys are the rough and tumble, hero types with a stubborn streak a mile wide. They often have big bad attitudes, too. But when it comes to old ladies, babies, and certain animals.... they are instantly putty in their hands. And.... yep, that just what happened with Lucas in this story.

I loved all of the secondary characters in this story, with the exception of Sonia, that is. I had no trouble what-so-ever picturing Henry, Jack, Grady, and even Hazel and little Joshua so clearly in my head throughout the whole story. It made me want to join in on the fun and festivities taking place, and yes....even when all the wild mayhem was breaking out around them.

For the past year Lucas has been serving in the Military in Kuwait. When one of his buddies dies, Lucas becomes friends with his buddy’s best friend Natalie. They start dating via the internet and using that as a way to get to know one another better. Now Lucas is coming home and he will finally meet in person the woman he has been talking to for the last year. BUT.....Is she everything he's dreamed about for the last eleven months? Hardly. But that's where the real fun starts in this story. You'll just have to read this book to understand what I'm talking about.

This story will bring you to tears a time or two, but it'll also have you rolling on the floor with laughter more times than not.
"The Cowboy's Christmas Baby" Cowboys and Brides #2 is by author Carolyn Brown.

My Rating 5 Stars

I've read many Christmas romances in the past few weeks. Some were good, some great. But "The Cowboy's Christmas Baby was the most heartwarming. It's one I will definitely reread. At 352 pages I hesitated reading this one. But only because I was at a point in my week where I needed to select a book I could get through in a day, two the most.

This book was pretty far down on my TBR list, having added it a while back. I am so glad I selected it! It had every "feel." There was an absolutely amazing and spirited cast of characters. Not only were the H/h perfectly and realistically written, but the secondary cast was a wonderful gift to the story. They were all truly a great bunch of sassy, quirky and humorous characters.

Lucas Allen is the hero of the story and my hero as well. He is a cowboy by nature and by heart. Hardworking and loyal. Lucas has been overseas, in the military but he is finally coming home to the relief and delight of his witty and loving family. Lucas missed his family. Another reason he is eager to get home is to meet Natalie. She is the woman he has gotten to know over the past eleven months via Skype. Natalie is the woman Lucas can't wait to meet in person, the one he thinks about a future with. But all his hopes and dreams of a future with Natalie are stalled when he comes home to find her with a baby. Her baby! Lucas is upset and not a little angry. For nearly a year they got to know each other. She never once told him she was pregnant! Why did she lie?

Natalie Clark is a strong, sassy gal. True she didn't tell Lucas about her baby. But only because she didn't know how. She was afraid to lose him so she decided to wait and tell him in person. When they do meet for the first time, things don't go well. The situation is tense and even a bit unfriendly. Of course, Lucas's reaction is understandable and believable.

What I was really thrilled about is that Lucas didn't hold onto his anger long. The relationship between Lucas and Natalie took time to develop. It was a slow but perfect journey. I can't say enough how much I loved this book and all of the characters in it. Lucas will forever have a special place in my heart. The mold was truly broken after he was created. Well, that's just my opinion but he was amazing. Not only was Lucas perfect with his looks and physique, he was well-mannered, patient, loyal, considerate, friendly, generous, loving and absolutely genuine with his care of Natalie's baby. This book also had a ton of laughter. As I said earlier, "The Cowboy's Christmas Baby" has all the "feels." Absolutely all of them!

So yes, I would recommend this book if you are looking for a steady-paced, feel good, heartwarming romantic story. And what makes it even better is that it takes place over Christmas time.
